Christmas – Outdoor Decorations Lift the Spirit

There is something magical about the Christmas. Outdoor Christmas decorations, in all of their colorful splendor, just can’t help but lift the human spirit.

Christmas is one of those holidays that not only allows us to remember the good times of the past, but allows us to exhibit hope and faith for the future.

Every family that allows itself to celebrate Christmas usually follows some kind of ritual or tradition in their decorating schemes. More often than not we expend our time on decorating the interior of our homes than we do paying attention to the exterior.

There are really two different patterns or areas of focus in our holiday decorating scheme. Christmas outdoor festivities and outdoor lighting accentuate our roof lines, windows, trees, sidewalks, and driveways. Lighted inflated, animated, or fixed characters extends the joy of the season to those outside our immediate families and friends. Interior decorations tend to be a bit more personal and sentimental and are directed towards our own personal enjoyment and reflection. But including Christmas outdoor activities and decorations in our traditional celebrations can lift our individual spirits as well as the spirits of those that are able to share with us.

Growing up in a small rural town, there wasn’t much outdoor display of Christmas decorations at individual homes. This didn’t mean we didn’t enjoy the season of Christmas. Outdoor displays were usually relegated to commercial establishments with brightly colored strings of lights, municipalities with decorations on street light posts or to churches that displayed either a static nativity scene or on some occasions a living nativity scene.

Outdoor lighting was usually limited to lights arranged around store front windows. In later years, shop owners began hiring Christmas artists to add holiday greetings to their windows.

As a kid, there were a few money making opportunities. We could earn a few coins by assisting the homeowner in stringing their lights. They were usually glad to have someone help untangle the light cords.

Christmas outdoor lighting has become much more sophisticated today. While homeowners of the past just strung lights together that didn’t do anything special, today homeowners are faced with a whole array of opportunities. We hope to be able to bring some of those opportunities to you through the posts on this web site.

Please check back often as we will be updating on a regular basis.
